On Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at approximately 3:30 a.m., the United States Park Police attempted to stop a vehicle near the 1700 block of Alabama Avenue SE for a traffic infraction. The vehicle initially stopped and then continued on towards the 1800 block of Tubman Road. The two occupants, a male and female, fled into a townhouse in the area.
A check of the vehicle revealed it was taken in an armed carjacking out of Alexandria, Virginia.
A perimeter has been established and contact has been made with the residents in the house. The residents of the house have been evacuated. Negotiators are communicating with the suspects to surrender.
