US Park Police Seek Information On Fatal Hit And Run Crash

The United States Park Police is seeking the public’s help with information about a fatal hit and run crash on the Baltimore Washington Parkway.

On Monday, 11/28/11 at about 2:20 am, United States Park Police officers responded to a motor vehicle crash northbound on the Baltimore Washington Parkway south of Powder Mill Rd in Beltsville, MD.

A vehicle driven by Louis Poteat, a 72 year old male Seat Pleasant, MD resident, was struck from the rear. The striking vehicle did not stay on the scene.

Mr. Poteat was transported to an area hospital and died later that morning from injuries sustained in this crash.

The US Park Police is looking for a dark colored Mercedes that likely has front end damage. Our investigation indicates that this vehicle may have been involved in a street race northbound Baltimore Washington Parkway south of Powder Mill Rd. prior to the crash, and may have been involved in the crash. The driver of this Mercedes did not stay on the scene of the crash. The other vehicle in the race was a silver Lexus.
